Dyson sells parts by machine, and even within one model the parts can differ. A V11 can take one of two batteries, and Dyson splits V8 parts by filter type. This guide gets you from your machine to the right official Dyson part, and tells you which part actually fixes your problem.
Quick answer: Find your serial number first, then work out your exact version: click-in or screw-in battery on a V11, pinch or star pre-filter on a V8. Then match the part. For example, Dyson lists filter 970013-02 for the V11 and V15 Detect, battery 969352-03 for the Cyclone V10, and charger 969350-02 for the V10, V11 and V15.
Step 1: Find Your Serial Number
Dyson’s serial number help page says where to look:
| Your Dyson | Where the serial number is |
|---|---|
| Cordless stick, screw-in battery | On the back of the battery pack, at the base of the handle |
| Cordless stick, click-in battery | Remove the battery; it’s inside the machine’s handle |
| Cordless stick, if not found above | Behind the bin |
| Upright (Ball) | Behind the clear bin or underneath the wand handle, or on the underside, usually between the wheels |
Internal: row DY-A-007. Remove this line before publishing.
The V8 needs it most: Dyson says the V8 range “is compatible with three separate batteries,” and its battery finder uses the first three characters of your serial number to tell you which one.

Step 2: Work Out Your Exact Version
- V11: click-in or screw-in? Look where the handle meets the battery. Dyson’s part page says: “If there is a large red button that releases your battery then your machine will need the click-in battery.” No red button means screw-in.
- V8: pinch or star pre-filter? Dyson’s US parts pages for the V8 are split by pre-filter type, and the filters differ between them.
- V11: LCD or LED screen? Dyson lists separate parts pages for each. On the click-in versions, both pages list the same battery (970938-01) and charger (969350-02).
Step 3: Match the Part
Official Dyson parts by model (from Dyson’s US parts pages):
| Model | Battery | Charger | Filter(s) | Dock |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| V8 (star pre-filter) | 974815-01 | 967813-02 | Pre-filter 965661-05 · Post filter 967478-05 | — |
| V8 (pinch pre-filter/E battery) | 974815-01 | 967813-02 | Pre-filter 965661-01 | Docking station 967741-02 |
| Cyclone V10 | 969352-03 | 969350-02 | 969082-01 | Docking station 969042-01 · Cyclone V10 Dok 968923-02 |
| V11 click-in (LCD screen) | Click-in 970938-01 | 969350-02 | 970013-02 | Docking station 970011-02 |
| V11 screw-in (LCD screen) | 970145-06 (see note) | 969350-02 | 970013-02 | Docking station 970011-02 |

Internal: rows DY-C-011, DY-D-005 to D-010, D-014. Remove this line before publishing.
V11 screw-in note: when we checked in October 2026, Dyson’s page for that battery said “We no longer sell this item.”
V8 note: confirm the battery with Dyson’s V8 battery finder before you order.

Parts Dyson Expects You to Replace
Dyson’s US warranty treats some parts as normal wear. It excludes “normal wearing parts, such as the clear bin, filter, brush bar, and power cord,” and “reduction in battery discharge time due to battery age or use.” So plan to buy these over the life of the machine. Dyson’s spare parts come with their own 1-year warranty.

Genuine Dyson Parts vs Third-Party
Start with the official Dyson part. Dyson says a genuine filter keeps the machine working as intended and the warranty valid, and it makes the same point about genuine parts on its V8 battery page. Its parts pages also confirm which machine each part fits.
Third-party filters and batteries are sold for most Dyson models. If you consider one, make sure the listing names your exact model and version. For batteries especially, avoid cheap, no-name lithium packs.
Safety note: Switch off your Dyson and take it off the charger (or unplug a Ball model) before you fit any part. Don’t fit a battery that’s cracked or damaged, and use only the Dyson charger for your model.
FAQ
Where can I buy genuine Dyson vacuum parts?
From Dyson. Its US parts pages list batteries, chargers, filters, docks and cleaner heads by machine, each with a part number.
How do I know which Dyson part fits my vacuum?
Find your serial number, work out your version (click-in or screw-in battery, pinch or star pre-filter), then check that the part page lists your machine.
Do the V11 and V15 use the same parts?
Several, yes. Dyson lists click-in battery 970938-01, charger 969350-02, filter 970013-02 and docking station 970011-02 for both. The V15 Detect also has a HEPA filter, 972126-01.
Does the Dyson warranty cover replacement parts?
Not for normal wear. Dyson’s US warranty excludes wearing parts such as the clear bin, filter, brush bar and power cord, and reduced battery runtime from age or use. Spare parts bought from Dyson carry their own 1-year warranty.
Bottom Line
Serial number first, then your exact version, then the part number from Dyson’s parts page. Filters, batteries and chargers fix most of the problems people search for. If the list of parts you need keeps growing, read [LINK: Repair or Replace Your Dyson — /dyson/repair-or-replace-dyson-vacuum/].
