On a Shark Navigator, Rotator or Rocket, a green light is good news: the brushroll is running, or a jam has cleared. The trouble starts when it won’t come on, or turns red. What green means also depends on where the light is, because Shark uses green on some battery gauges and robot bases too.

Quick answer: On a Shark Navigator or Rotator, a green brushroll light means the brushroll is on and working. On a Rocket, green after a red light means the blockage is cleared. If the green light won’t come on, check that the brushroll is engaged: pick a brush-on mode and recline the handle, then check for a jam.

Green Light On: What It Tells You

Navigator and Rotator: the brushroll is running

On the Navigator NV351/NV352, a green motorized brush indicator means the floor brush is on. On the Rotator NV600, a solid green Brushroll Indicator Light means the brushroll is on and working. Nothing to fix.

Rocket corded: the jam is gone

On the Rocket HV301Q, the floor nozzle’s brush roll light turns red when the brush roll stops. Once you clear the blockage, it goes green.

Stratos cordless: the battery is nearly full

On the Stratos cordless IZ800, the charging LED pulses green when the battery is between 76 and 99 percent charged. It pulses white when full, and yellow from 0 to 75 percent.

Robot base: the robot is docked

On Shark’s RV2800 robot series, the base light is green when the robot is on the base and detected. A white light means the robot is off the base or not detected. See [LINK: Shark Robot Not Charging — /shark/shark-robot-not-charging/].

Safety note: Switch off and unplug a corded Shark, or switch off a cordless one, before you turn it over or touch the brushroll. Don’t put your fingers near a brushroll while the vacuum is on, and cut wrapped hair with scissors, away from the bristles.

Green Light Won’t Come On

Owners on repair forums describe Sharks with good suction where the green light won’t come on and the brush doesn’t spin. Shark’s guides point to two things to check first: whether the brushroll is meant to be running, and whether something has stopped it.

The brushroll isn’t engaged

Several Shark families only run the brushroll in certain positions or modes, so the light stays off.

How to tell: Suction works, but the brushroll is still and there’s no green light.

How to fix it:

  • Navigator NV351/NV352: pull the handle back to release the nozzle from its auto-off, then set the switch to “II – Brush Roll On”.
  • Rotator NV600: the brushroll runs when the handle is reclined. If there’s no light at all, Shark says the vacuum is off: press power and select carpet or hard floor mode.
  • Stratos cordless IZ800: the brushrolls only engage when the handheld is tilted back and the nozzle is free to swivel.

Something has stopped the brushroll

If the brushroll should be running, a jam can stop it. On the Navigator, Rotator and Rocket, the light then turns red instead of green.

How to tell: The light is red, or the brushroll is wrapped with hair or string.

How to fix it:

  1. Switch off and unplug the vacuum, or switch off a cordless one.
  2. Disconnect the floor nozzle where your model allows it, and remove the blockage.
  3. Cut wrapped hair or string with scissors, taking care not to cut the bristles.
  4. Turn it back on. On the Navigator, Shark says the red light resets after you clear the jam and switch the vacuum off and on, or lock it upright.

If that doesn’t fix it: On the Rocket, Shark says to call customer service if the light stays red. For the full steps by family, see [LINK: Shark Vacuum Brush Roll Not Spinning — /shark/shark-vacuum-brush-roll-not-spinning/].

When the Light Turns Red

Red means something different by family: a jam on the Navigator, Rotator and Rocket, and overheating when it flashes on the Rotator. Every red pattern is in [LINK: Shark Vacuum Red Light Flashing — /shark/shark-vacuum-red-light-flashing/].

Repair or Replace?

Before you think about replacing a Shark over a missing green light, rule out the brushroll setting and a jam.

Repair makes sense if:

  • clearing the brushroll or changing the mode brought the green light back
  • it’s under warranty: Shark’s guides list 5 years for the Navigator NV351/NV352 and Rotator NV600

Replace makes sense if:

  • the brushroll won’t run in any mode with nothing jammed, and it’s out of warranty
  • other faults keep turning up at the same time

FAQ

What does the green light on my Shark vacuum mean?

On a Navigator or Rotator, it means the brushroll is on. On a Rocket, green after red means a blockage has been cleared. On a Stratos cordless charger LED, a green pulse means the battery is 76 to 99 percent charged.

Why won’t the green light come on on my Shark?

Check that the brushroll is engaged first. Recline the handle and pick a brush-on mode. On the Navigator, release the nozzle’s auto-off and set the switch to “II – Brush Roll On”. If it still won’t come on, check the brushroll for a jam.

Why is my Shark light green but the brush isn’t spinning?

Switch the vacuum off and unplug it, then check the brushroll for wrapped hair or a blockage. If it’s clear and still won’t spin, see the brush roll guide for your family or call Shark.

Bottom Line

On the Navigator, Rotator and Rocket, green means “on” or “fixed”. If it won’t light, engage the brushroll first, then clear any jam. Check where the light is, too: on a cordless charger or a robot base, green is about the battery or docking, not the brush.
